For more than 30 years, in both executive and senior planning positions, Mike has provided effective financial strategies for plan sponsors in qualified, non-qualified retirement and employee benefit programs. As an Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst (AIFA) he is certified to conduct Fiduciary Assessments on Investment Stewards, Managers and Advisors and serves as an Analyst, for CEFEX, The Centre for Fiduciary Excellence. In 2008, he founded Plan Sponsor Consultants, a nationally recognized award winning independent retirement plan consulting firm. PSC has offices in Atlanta, Birmingham, DC, Maryland & Virginia, Michigan and Mobile.

Passionately committed to fiduciary education and financial wellness, Mike has spoken before many forums. Since 2010, Plan Sponsor Consultants has sponsored Breakfast with Benefits workshops for retirement plan sponsors on fiduciary issues and financial wellness programs. Mike has frequently served as a Panelist on fiduciary topics including:

  • The Next Generation of Target Date Funds
  • Financial Wellness and Retirement Readiness
  • Benchmarking Retirement Plans and RFPs
  • Fiduciary Prudent Standards of Care

Mike’s speaking opportunities have been in forums such as the PLANSPONSOR magazine national conference, Plan Adviser National Conference, SE Benefits Network, EXCEL 401(k), NAPA 401k Summit, and other industry events.

Mike serves as Managing Director of Plan Sponsor Consultants. He is a member of several of the most elite independent retirement plan alliances: Global Retirement Partners (GRP) and LPL Retirement Partners. Mike also serves on the board of the national Retirement Advisor Council (RAC). Mike has served on various committees of the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA), a division of the American Retirement Association. He is a member of the Centre For Fiduciary Excellence (CEFEX) and the Center for Fiduciary Studies.

Mike is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst (AIFA). AIFA’s have completed a rigorous specialized program on investment fiduciary standards of care at the Center for Fiduciary Studies, in association with the University of Pittsburgh Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. He also is a Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor through the National Association of Plan Advisors.

Before entering the profession, Mike served as a Naval Officer. Mike holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Mount Saint Mary’s University. He performed his graduate work at George Washington University School of Business.

In 2017, to be eligible as a finalist for PLANSPONSOR Adviser Team of the Year, advisers had to meet the following minimum criteria: having a majority of business revenue derived from employer-sponsored retirement plans, serving as a fiduciary, being committed to fee-based compensation and using outcome-based metrics of plan success with clients. PLANADVISER Top 100 Retirement Plan Advisers are selected based solely on quantitative factors, including plan assets and number of plans, as reported directly by nominees. ASPPA/NAPA 401(k) Leadership: nominated and selected by industry peers based on leadership, innovation and contributions to the retirement plan industry. NAPA Top DC Advisor Firms are selected based solely on defined contribution (DC) plan assets under advisement as reported directly by nominees. FT Top 401 Retirement Advisors: selected based on assets under management in defined contribution (DC) plans, degree of specialization, growth in number of plans and assets under management, average participation rate in advised DC plans, years of experience, industry certifications, and compliance record.
